Business context

Why LetsFAME?

The entertainment industry is built around relationships, reputation, portfolios and opportunity. Yet much of the professional ecosystem remains fragmented across social platforms, messaging apps, personal networks and informal hiring channels.

Traditional professional platforms are designed around corporate job histories — not around crews, casting, credits and creative portfolios. The workflows that entertainment professionals actually use never had a product built for them.

Entertainment professionals need to

  • Showcase visual portfolios
  • Build professional credibility
  • Discover opportunities
  • Find collaborators
  • Network with relevant people
  • Apply for jobs
  • Communicate professionally

Hiring professionals need to

  • Discover relevant talent
  • Search by specific skills
  • Review portfolios
  • Validate professional information
  • Filter candidates
  • Contact talent quickly
  • Manage hiring conversations

Problem statement

The industry had talent. The problem was discovery.

Entertainment professionals had the talent, skills and portfolios — but there wasn't a dedicated professional ecosystem connecting the right people with the right opportunities.

01

Fragmented networking

Professional relationships were often distributed across Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook and personal networks.

02

Difficult talent discovery

Hiring managers lacked an efficient way to discover talent based on specific roles and niche skills.

03

Weak professional identity

Traditional social profiles were not structured around entertainment portfolios, roles and professional capabilities.

04

Informal hiring

Job opportunities and hiring conversations often happened through scattered and unstructured communication.

How might we

How might we create a professional ecosystem where entertainment talent can build credibility, discover opportunities and connect with the right people more efficiently?

Research & discovery

Understanding a relationship-driven industry

Discovery was qualitative — conversations with professionals on both sides of the industry, combined with competitive and market analysis. No formal usability study or survey data was collected at this stage.

Product opportunity

From social networking to professional opportunity

The opportunity was not simply to create another social platform. It was to connect professional identity, networking and hiring into one focused ecosystem.

Building the right mental model

One of the biggest UX challenges was balancing two very different behaviours: social networking and professional hiring. Four primary experiences gave every user goal a clear home.

Key UX challenges

Four challenges shaped the product

01

How do we make professional profiles media-rich without making them feel cluttered?

02

How do we combine social networking and professional hiring without confusing the user's mental model?

03

How do we help hiring managers find relevant talent quickly?

04

How do we create trust when users are connecting with people they may not know?

How I solved them

Challenge → UX response → outcome

01

Media-rich professional profiles

“Let the work speak first.”

Problem

Entertainment professionals need to showcase visual work, but placing too much media on one screen can create visual overload.

UX response

  • Profile identity
  • Professional role
  • Skills
  • Portfolio
  • Images
  • Videos
  • Experience
  • Work previews

Outcome

Users can communicate both who they are and what they have created without relying on a traditional text-heavy résumé.

02

Networking + hiring

“Give every user goal a clear home.”

Problem

A social networking experience and a hiring workflow have different user goals.

UX response

  • Discover
  • Jobs
  • Messages
  • Profile

Outcome

The experience creates clearer mental models between discovering people, finding opportunities and communicating.

03

Talent discovery

“Reduce the distance between search and decision.”

Problem

Hiring professionals need to quickly narrow down suitable candidates.

UX response

  • Roles
  • Skills
  • Categories
  • Search
  • Filters
  • Portfolio previews
  • Professional profiles
Search
Filter
Review
Connect

Outcome

Hiring managers can move from broad discovery toward relevant talent more efficiently.

04

Trust & credibility

“Make credibility visible at the point of decision.”

Problem

Entertainment hiring is relationship-driven. Users need confidence before connecting or considering someone for an opportunity.

UX response

  • Professional profile information
  • Skill categories
  • Portfolio evidence
  • Experience
  • Verification signals
  • Professional identity

Outcome

Trust becomes part of the product experience rather than something users have to establish outside the platform.

Design exploration

Finding the visual language

Early profile concepts prioritised media visibility, but created too much visual density. I refined the hierarchy by separating identity, skills and portfolio content into clearer sections.

Visual design system

A system built for a creative industry

The visual system was designed to feel distinct from traditional professional networks while maintaining usability, credibility and consistency.

Key experience — profile

Profile — more than a résumé

Traditional professional profiles prioritise text. LetsFAME needed to prioritise proof of work.

Professional profile

What

Identity block with role and location

Why

Establishes who the professional is in one glance.

What

Skills as structured tags

Why

Makes capability scannable and searchable across the platform.

What

Portfolio grid above experience

Why

Proof of work carries more weight than job history in this industry.

What

Video and image media tiles

Why

Entertainment work is visual; text alone under-represents it.

What

Experience and credits

Why

Adds professional context behind the visual work.

What

Verification signal

Why

Reduces hesitation at the moment of connecting.

Key experience — discover

Discover — find people, not just posts

Discovery was designed around professional relevance rather than generic social engagement.

Connect

Filters map to how the industry actually organises work — craft, role and skill rather than generic job titles — so a casting professional can move from a broad category to a shortlist without leaving a single screen.

Communicate
  • Job title
  • Role requirements

  • Job description
  • Application CTA

Requirements sit above the fold and the application CTA stays persistent, so the decision to apply never requires backtracking. Profile data is reused at application time to keep friction low.

Key experience — messaging

Messaging — from discovery to conversation

Once the right person or opportunity is discovered, communication needs to feel direct and professional.

Profile

Opportunity

Conversations carry professional context — the role, the job or the profile they started from — so both sides know why a thread exists. That context is what keeps the tone professional rather than social.

Cross-platform

Extending the experience to the web

The mobile app was designed around frequent networking and opportunity discovery, while the web experience provides more space for advanced workflows and professional management.

Decisions

Design is about making trade-offs

Trade-off 01

Reduced onboarding complexity

vs

Detailed profile customisation

Prioritised getting users into the product faster while allowing richer profile completion later.

Trade-off 02

Simple job posting

vs

Advanced filtering

Kept initial job creation focused and avoided overwhelming recruiters.

Trade-off 03

vs

Advanced web capabilities

Prioritised the mobile experience for the initial product while extending complex workflows into web.

Learnings

What this project taught me

01

Niche industries require context

“Generic professional networking patterns don't always translate to specialised industries.”

02

Proof of work can be more powerful than titles

“For entertainment professionals, portfolios, media and previous work are central to professional identity.”

03

Trust is a UX feature

“Verification and professional credibility are not only operational concerns — they directly influence how users perceive the product.”

04

Product design is about balance

“Networking, hiring, business goals and user needs often pull in different directions. Good UX creates clarity within those competing priorities.”

Future opportunities

If I designed Version 2

These are future opportunities, not existing features.

01

AI talent recommendations

Recommend relevant professionals based on skills, portfolios and job requirements.

02

Smart hiring filters

Improve talent discovery using role, experience, skill and availability signals.

03

Video introductions

Allow professionals to introduce themselves through short-form video.

04

Verification tiers

Create stronger trust signals for professionals and organisations.

05

Recruiter analytics

Help hiring teams understand job performance, candidate engagement and hiring activity.

06

Personalised discovery

Recommend relevant people, opportunities and networking connections.

Entertainment runs on people, relationships and opportunities.

LetsFAME brings those connections into one professional ecosystem — helping entertainment professionals build their identity, discover opportunities and connect with the right people.

My role was to turn that vision into a product experience that could scale across networking, discovery and hiring.
